The founder, Mr. Vinod Kumar Roy comes from a small village Mahua in Vaishali district of the state of Bihar, India. Mr. Roy’s father Mr. Dwarik Roy worked as a labor in the city of Kolkata, India and Sundari Devi his mother was a homemaker. Mr. Roy is a single child of his parents.
Since an early age Mr. Roy had a vision of growth and progression, not letting his family’s poverty or roots hold him down or distract him from his vision of a better future for his family and him. Mr. Roy was still in his school when he started to help out his father in his work, as every bit of help was required to keep the then poor family of three.
After finishing his schooling and then graduation, he started working at a shop as an errand boy, going from a customer to another on foot to save the small amount money from he used to receive as salary which was around Rs300 (approx. – 30USD) in 1980. He also started selling used chest box and balloons. By this time Mr. Roy was married to Mrs. Asha Roy and parent to their eldest son Mr. Sanjay Kumar Roy. After sometime unable to provide for the family they went back to their village, hoping to get back on their feet with farming.
Growing up in the city Mr. Roy was unprepared for the farmer village life. Mrs. Asha Roy seeing her husband struggle and also dreams for her child’s bright future urged her husband to go back to Kolkata and try his hand at something different, something that was his true calling.
Mr. Roy started small, selling different things in small quantity, rolling his income in further investment. Meanwhile, one of his friends also introduced him to tea market. He started learning all about tea with a passion that pleasantly surprised him and made him realize that he finally found his true calling. After sometime he took a leap of faith and opened a small shop “Sanjay Tea Emporium” named after his eldest son in the year 1985. And the rest as they are history.
Sanjay Tea Emporium aims to expand and reach out to people all around the world, looking for a source for the best purely tea in the most affordable price that can be provided. We believe that exploration of tea is an adventure in itself and it is something we would
love to explore along with everyone, equally.
We are tea lovers, with a simple goal of making tea available to as many tea lovers as possible across the globe. In ancient days tea was treated as a medicinal herb rather than today’s modernized outlook of it being a pleasure drink. Though this is slowly changing with more knowledge of tea and it’s health benefits being available for all. We have taken an oath to provide tea the most pure and unadulterated straight from the tea garden to all.
